What is a Cannabis Harm Reduction Association?
A Cannabis Harm Reduction Association, or CHRA, is a non-profit association licensed in Malta to cultivate cannabis and distribute it to its own registered members. Associations may not sell to the general public, may not advertise, and operate under limits set by Maltese law. Malta was the first country in Europe to regulate cannabis this way.
Is South Flowers a licensed association?
Yes. South Flowers is a licensed Cannabis Harm Reduction Association operating under licence number 007, based at Triq San Tumas 268, Fgura FGR 1609, Malta.
How can I check that an association is licensed?
Look it up on the official registry of the Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis at aruc.mt/operational-chras. Only associations on that list hold an operating permit and may enrol members. South Flowers appears there as SOUTH FLOWERS, CHRA 007, Fgura.
Who can become a member of South Flowers?
You must be 18 years of age or older and resident in Malta. You must present an identity card or residence card issued by the Maltese Government as proof of residence, and you may belong to only one Cannabis Harm Reduction Association at a time.
Can tourists join a cannabis club in Malta?
No. Tourists and visitors may not become members of a Cannabis Harm Reduction Association in Malta. Membership is restricted by law to residents who can prove residence with a Maltese identity card or residence card. This applies to every association on the island, not only to South Flowers.
Can non-members buy from South Flowers?
No. South Flowers is a non-profit association, not a shop. We cultivate exclusively for our registered members and cannot sell or hand anything to non-members, whether residents or visitors. Nobody can walk in and buy. This is the law for every Cannabis Harm Reduction Association in Malta.
How do I join South Flowers?
All our places are currently taken. South Flowers is licensed for 500 members — the maximum any association in Malta can have, which makes us one of the largest on the island — and every one of those places is currently filled. If you’d like to join, register your interest on our waiting list: we contact people in the order they signed up, as places become available. Registration is then completed in person at our premises in Fgura, with your Maltese identity card or residence card.
How much does membership cost?
Five euro a month, and that’s it. We keep it simple: monthly only — no quarterly or yearly packages — and you renew in person when you collect, so there’s nothing to set up and nothing quietly renewing itself in the background. Products then carry their own contribution per gram, with a range that works for every budget: from €7 for our flower, which is always premium (we don’t distribute trim), up to our piattella and resin. Contributions cover cultivation, testing, our events (always free for members) and the running of the association — South Flowers is non-profit, so everything goes back into the plant.
How much cannabis can a member collect?
Maltese law allows a member to collect a maximum of 7 grams of cannabis flower per day and a maximum of 50 grams per month. These limits apply across all associations, and members may belong to only one association.
Can I consume cannabis at the club?
No. Consumption of cannabis, and of alcohol, on the premises of any Cannabis Harm Reduction Association is prohibited by Maltese law. Members collect and leave. Consumption in public places is also illegal in Malta: it must take place in private and away from minors.
Can I be a member of more than one association?
No. Maltese law allows membership of one Cannabis Harm Reduction Association at a time. To join another association you would first have to leave the one you belong to.
What kind of cannabis does South Flowers grow?
South Flowers grows sungrown cannabis in a greenhouse under the Mediterranean sun, with natural light and airflow, and every step — seed to harvest, trimming to packaging — happens in-house. What we grow never stands still: we develop our own strains, we bring in new genetics from the market at every cycle, and from time to time we return to the great classics — Super Lemon Haze, White Widow, Cheese — the ones that made so many of us fall for this plant in the first place.
Is the cannabis tested?
Yes — every strain and every batch, before it reaches anyone. An independent, certified lab in Malta checks the cannabinoid profile and screens for moulds and bacteria, mycotoxins, heavy metals, foreign material and moisture out of range. Every result goes straight to the Authority as well as to us, and a batch is only released once it’s certified. It’s the difference between us and the black market: you know what you’re getting. Can I still grow cannabis at home if I am a member?
Of course — and we hope you do. Home growing sits outside membership entirely: adults in Malta can cultivate up to four plants per household for personal use, within the conditions set by law, member or not. This one’s close to our hearts — we started as home growers ourselves, waiting for our turn in the sun. So if your grow hits a rough patch — a plant that won’t thrive, doubts about drying, an invasion of something tiny and hungry — talk to us at the club. We’ll listen, and we’ll help you figure it out.
Where is South Flowers and when is it open?
South Flowers is at Triq San Tumas 268, Fgura FGR 1609, Malta. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 20:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00. We are closed on Sunday. Members must bring their identity card or residence card to every collection.
